Family sessions are so much fun and something I recommend to everyone I meet to do often… or at least annually. It’s such a great way to pack in that sweet quality time with your kiddos and also have some memories captured of the current season of life you are in. Looking back at the photos is something you’ll enjoy so much in a couple of years.
With that being said, wrangling the fam up for a family session can be a lot sometimes. As a momma myself I speak from experience beyond being on the photographer’s end of things! So, I thought I would come in and share some tips I have for how to prepare for your family session!
Are ya ready?
01. Staying Hydrated
Staying hydrated in general is immensely important. Be sure to pack water for you and the family so you’re feeling happy and hydrated! You can even pack some snacks for the drive-up or drive back. Especially if you have toddlers…always bring them a little something to munch on.
02. Outfits
Pick out your outfits the morning before your session. This will give you time to run some errands if you wanted to add accessories or if you are in need of an extra shirt for one of your kiddos. If you’re having trouble picking out an outfit, you can run over to Pinterest for ideas or you can click here to see inspo from past family sessions I’ve photographed.
03. Emergency Bag
If you are someone who likes to be prepared for just about anything and everything, I would highly recommend preparing an emergency bag. In your emergency bag, you can prepare snacks (crackers, granola bars, etc), an umbrella, an extra change of clothes, diapers (if needed), and a first aid kit. Trust me, if something goes wrong, you’ll be so happy you packed this. You can put just about anything you think you might need in your emergency bag.
04. Getting Ready Early
Get ready way earlier than you originally were planning on. This will give you time in case you need to stop for something whether it’s for cosmetics or for gas. Then you can take your time getting ready instead of rushing. It’s always better to be early rather than late.
05. Make Your Appointments Ahead Of Time
If you and your family are planning on getting your hair, nails, or anything done, make your appointments ahead of time. Again, this is good in case something goes wrong. This will also prevent you from rushing and stressing the day before your family photo session.

Kind Words
“Jade is not only a very talented woman behind the lens but she is also the sweetest soul. She treats my daughter like she’s her own baby. She makes silly sounds and faces to get her to laugh or smile. Also, I’m an awkward person and she makes me feel so comfortable. Her photos speak for themselves about her talents but her personality and how she treats people will always keep me coming back. Thank you for being you, Jade!!!”
